Undergraduate Program for Archival Science Major(Major Code:120502)

Ⅰ. Objectives

This major is to cultivate practical talents with systematic basic theory knowledge of archival science, who grasp knowledge of modern management, advanced information technology and professional skills of archives management, to be engaged in archival management, file management, information management, integrated office work in all kinds of departments of archives, information or secretary in archival administration, Party and Government offices, enterprises and institutions.

Ⅱ.Basic Requirements

This major requires the students to learn the basic knowledge of archives management and information management and take part in the education system of relevant professional theories, methods and skills. At the same time, it requires the undergraduates to develop the basic ability to engage in archives and information management, and can adapt to the needs of adjacent majors such as secretarial, intelligence, library and other work..

The graduates from this major are expected to,

1) fully grasp the basic theories and knowledge of information management as well as Information Resources Management, and Science of Archives Management. In addition, the laws of education and related management regulations should be known as well,

2) be well informed of the Party’s guidelines, principles and policies related to information resources management.

3) know about the theoretical and dynamic developments of Information Resources Management, and Science of Archives Management and disciplines concerned,

4) master the basic methods of how to survey literature, collect and analyze data, and write a paper,

5) possess the basic abilities of solving the practical problems through with the theoretical knowledge and scientific methods,

6) build up the abilities to carry out basic researches and learn how to think critically.

Introduction to Archives, History of Chinese Archives, History of Foreign Archives, Amanuensis Science, Information Resources Management, Science of Archives Management, Management of Electronic Records, Compilation of Archival Documents, Technical of Archives Preservation, Management of Electronic Records, Computer Management of Archives, Scientific and Technical Archives Management.

Ⅳ.Length of Schooling and Conferred Degree

School length: Four years

To be awarded Bachelor Degree in Management

Ⅵ. Graduation Requirements

A minimum of 158.5 credits and a qualified graduation thesis are required for graduation and degree conferring.

Compulsory Courses of General Education: 36.5 credits

Foundation Courses of Discipline: 31 credits

Specialize Courses: 64 credits

Elective Compulsory Courses of General Education: 6 credits

Practice Courses: 21 credits
