Undergraduate Program for Philosophy Major(Major Code:010101)

Ⅰ. Objectives

This major is to cultivate talents with certain theoretical qualities and systematic professional fundamental knowledge of Marxist philosophy, who can be further trained as high-level and high-quality philosophical professionals with potential, innovative spirit and strong adaptability; To cultivate talents interdisciplinary senior talents who has a comprehensive development on the aspects of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, psychological; To cultivate application-oriented talents who have certain practical application ability and are competent to be engaged in administrative management, theoretical publicity, teaching and scientific research, publishing and editing in Party and Government offices, public institutions, education publicity, enterprises and institutions.

Ⅱ.Basic Requirements

The main courses for this major include in the basic theory and history of Marxism, pedagogy, sociology, and psychology. Furthermore, it requires the students to take part in the basic training about theoretical research and practical innovation. Students of this major are subject to the systematic education of basic theories and development clues of Chinese and Western philosophy as well as the cultivation of creative thinking and practical ability.

The graduates from this major are expected to,

1) fully grasp the basic theories of Marxism as well as the ideological and political education, political science, education science, sociology, psychology and so on,

2) master the basic methods of how to survey literature, collect and analyze data, and write a paper,

3) possess the basic abilities of solving the practical problems through with the theoretical knowledge and scientific methods,

4) be well informed of the Party’s guidelines, principles and policies. In addition, the laws of education and related management regulations should be known as well,

5) know about the theoretical and dynamic developments of Philosophy and disciplines concerned,

6) build up the abilities to carry out basic researches and learn how to think critically.

General Introduction to Philosophy, Principles of Marxist Philosophy, History of Marxist Philosophy, Classical Readings of Marxist Philosophy, Modern Chinese Philosophy, History of Chinese Philosophy, Classical Readings of Chinese Philosophy, Contemporary Western Philosophy, Classical Readings of Western Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Technology, Ethics, Religious Studies, Logic, Aesthetics, Psychology, Introduction to Chinese and Western Philosophy, Introduction to Marxist Philosophy.

Ⅳ.Length of Schooling and Conferred Degree

School length: Four years

To be awarded Bachelor Degree in Philosophy

Ⅵ. Graduation Requirements

A minimum of 159.5 credits and a qualified graduation thesis are required for graduation and degree conferring.
